Meet our founder

The Curious Fold was founded by Alokeparna Ray, an educator and learning designer with nearly a decade of experience in research in Germany. Her work brings together learning science, long-term research experience, and direct exposure to curiosity-driven learning environments in Europe, including formal training and certification under Rob Houben, co-founder of Wings Agora in the Netherlands (Reimagine Learning).

Alokeparna’s approach has been shaped by sustained, close work with educators and learners across diverse contexts — and by prolonged immersion in learning environments where outcomes are not predetermined, learners work with high autonomy, and understanding is allowed to emerge over time. These experiences clarified a recurring pattern: when curiosity is treated as the starting point of learning, engagement deepens, motivation stabilises, and understanding becomes durable rather than performative.

Her work now focuses on strengthening learning environments from the inside out. She works with mentors and institutions to help them recognise how curiosity actually operates — cognitively, emotionally, and socially — and how small shifts in adult behaviour can fundamentally change how learning unfolds. Rather than prescribing methods, her practice emphasises careful observation, responsiveness to context, and the ability to work productively with uncertainty.

Grounded in learning science and informed by lived practice, Alokeparna’s work challenges outcome-driven models of education. She helps educators and learners move away from compliance-based learning towards environments where inquiry, persistence, and meaning are cultivated deliberately — and where learning is experienced as something built through understanding, not enforced through instruction.
